Ζήνωνος ἀποσπάσματα (SVF I 1–332)

The only form in which Zeno can be read today. It comprises the life and sayings in Diogenes Laertius VII 1–38—the shipwreck, the pot of lentils, "a friend is another self", "we have two ears and one mouth to listen more and speak less"—the doctrines the sources expressly attribute to him in logic (comprehension illustrated with the hand), physics (the two principles, fire, the soul as warm breath) and ethics (the end, the appropriate, the passions), and the testimonies on his Republic. Von Arnim's edition numbers 332 fragments of Zeno.
Authorship note
A modern compilation. It is not a work by Zeno but the collection of quotations, paraphrases, sayings and reports about him transmitted by Diogenes Laertius, Cicero, Plutarch, Stobaeus, Sextus Empiricus, Athenaeus, Philodemus and others, gathered by Pearson (1891) and by von Arnim (SVF I, 1905). Many reports speak of "the Stoics" in general, and their attribution to Zeno is uncertain.
