Bhīṣma's teaching on dharma, gifts, rites and devotion continues, with the thousand names of Viṣṇu (Viṣṇusahasranāma). It ends with Bhīṣma's death at the winter solstice. With the Śāntiparvan it is the great didactic repository of the poem, and one of the strata scholarship considers latest.
