Dialogue of Kapila and Āsuri (Kapilāsurisaṃvāda)
कपिलासुरिसंवाद

A didactic dialogue of the Mokṣadharma in which Kapila instructs Āsuri on the origin of the world, the principles of nature and consciousness and the path of knowledge that leads to liberation. It is one of the witnesses of epic Sāṃkhya, prior to the classical systematisation of the Kārikā, in which the categories do not yet have the fixed form they would acquire later. Its interest lies in showing how the epic tradition built the figure of the founding teacher.

Authorship note
A section of the Mahābhārata (Śāntiparvan, Mokṣadharma) that places in Kapila’s mouth his teaching to his disciple Āsuri. An ascribed epic discourse; Jacobsen (2008) translates and studies it.
