Kapila
Kapila Purāṇa
Traditional attribution
Kapila Purāṇa
कपिलपुराण

A minor Purāṇa of which manuscripts survive (one in the Sarasvatī Bhavan, Benares, according to the catalogues) and which tradition places under Kapila’s authority. There is no critical edition or translation into a European language, and its content has hardly been studied. It is recorded so that the list of ascribed works is complete, without presuming any connection with the founder of Sāṃkhya.
No edition of this work is currently on sale in a store we have been able to verify.
Authorship note
An upapurāṇa bearing Kapila’s name; cited by the Sūtasaṃhitā and by Kavīndrācārya. A purely nominal ascription; date unknown.
