Address at His Nomination as Bishop of the Caucasus (1857)
Речь, произнесенная в Святейшем Синоде… при наречении его во Епископа Кавказского и Черноморского, октября 25 дня 1857 года

An address delivered before the Holy Synod on 25 October 1857, two days before his consecration: he recalls his youthful longing for solitude, says that he did not aspire to the priesthood but to be 'bishop of his own heart', sees the hand of Providence in his appointment and confesses his fear of the episcopal dignity.
