Отечник. Избранные изречения святых иноков и повести из жизни их

A collection of sayings and stories of the Egyptian Desert Fathers—Antony, Arsenius, Macarius, Poemen, Moses and many others—arranged alphabetically like the Alphabetical Paterikon, gathered from paterika, lives of saints, the Prologue, the Philokalia and Migne's Patrologia. Its distinctive feature is the comments with which Ignatius explains difficult passages—harsh asceticism towards relatives, feigned madness for humility, visions of demons and angels—to warn that literal imitation of the ancients can lead to delusion or loss of reason, and that what mattered was their humility.
