The Economy of the Animal Kingdom — Emanuel Swedenborg

Written work

The Economy of the Animal Kingdom

Oeconomia regni animalis in transactiones divisa

Retrato de Emanuel Swedenborg a los setenta y cinco años
byEmanuel Swedenborg

Two volumes (Amsterdam, 1740–1741) on the blood, the heart, the brain and the soul, built on the anatomy of his day (Malpighi, Leeuwenhoek, Boerhaave). Swedenborg proposes that the soul acts through a 'spirituous fluid' and locates the higher functions in the cerebral cortex, insights that neurology later came to value.
