Yoga Yājñavalkya
योगयाज्ञवल्क्य (Yogayājñavalkya)

A yoga treatise in twelve chapters and some five hundred verses in which Yājñavalkya teaches Gārgī the eight-limbed yoga: ten restraints and ten observances, postures, breath control, withdrawal of the senses, concentration, meditation and absorption, with a physiology of subtle channels (nāḍī) and vital winds. It influenced yoga practice before haṭha yoga and was revived in the twentieth century by T. Krishnamacharya and his students.

Authorship note
A dialogue between Yājñavalkya and Gārgī composed many centuries after the Upaniṣadic figure. Its date is disputed: Divanji (1954) placed it between the second century BCE and the fourth century CE; Mohan, before the fourth century; David Gordon White, between the tenth and twelfth centuries. Wujastyk points to palm-leaf manuscripts from the late ninth or early tenth century and from 1024.
