Jābāla Upaniṣad and Yājñavalkya Upaniṣad (Upaniṣads of renunciation)

जाबालोपनिषद् · याज्ञवल्क्योपनिषद्

Yājñavalkya con el rey Janaka (relieve)
byYajnavalkya

In the Jābāla, Janaka asks Yājñavalkya about renunciation, and he explains when and how one may become an ascetic, even directly from studenthood; Atri then asks him about the renouncer who does not wear the sacred thread. The later Yājñavalkya Upaniṣad develops the conduct of the paramahaṃsa. Patrick Olivelle translated both in his volume on the Saṃnyāsa Upaniṣads.

Authorship note

Late Upaniṣads of the saṃnyāsa group, assigned to the White Yajurveda, in which Yājñavalkya appears as a teacher of renunciation. They are not his work: they borrow his figure from the departure scene of the Bṛhadāraṇyaka.
