Mokṣopāya ('The Means to Liberation')
Traditional attribution
Mokṣopāya ('The Means to Liberation')
मोक्षोपाय (Mokṣopāya)

A Kashmiri philosophical text that sets out, within the frame of the dialogue between Vasiṣṭha and Rāma, a doctrine of liberation based on the knowledge that the world is an appearance of consciousness. Preserved in manuscripts in Śāradā script and recovered by philology in recent decades, it shows how an independent work, uncommitted to any school, was rewritten in a Vedāntic key until it became the Yoga Vāsiṣṭha.

Authorship note
Anonymous Kashmiri work of around the tenth century, cast as a dialogue between Vasiṣṭha and Rāma. Slaje and Hanneder have identified and edited it as the earlier form of the Yoga Vāsiṣṭha; the attribution to Vasiṣṭha is literary.
