At the Feet of the Master

Retrato de Jiddu Krishnamurti (Bain News Service, años veinte)
byJiddu Krishnamurti

A short manual of spiritual life in four qualifications (discrimination, desirelessness, good conduct and love) addressed to aspirants to the 'path' of Theosophical discipleship. It was the most widely circulated book of the Order of the Star, translated into dozens of languages. Its language of masters, initiations and obedience is exactly what Krishnamurti would dismantle from 1929, which makes it an indispensable document for measuring the distance between the boy shaped by Theosophy and the later thinker.

Authorship note

Signed 'Alcyone' (the name Theosophists gave Krishnamurti). Presented as notes of instructions received from the Master Kuthumi; Leadbeater had a hand in its wording and the teenager's full authorship was disputed from 1910. Krishnamurti later said he did not remember writing it.
