Ordo Virtutum

Hildegarda recibe la visión y la dicta a Volmar (Scivias de Rupertsberg)
byHildegard of Bingen

A morality in which the personified Virtues (Humility, Charity, Chastity, Obedience, Discretion…) and the Patriarchs and Prophets accompany a Soul who, seduced by the Devil, leaves the way and returns wounded to be received and bandaged. The Devil, the only male character, does not sing: he only shouts. With some eighty-two songs, it is the oldest surviving music drama by a known author and precedes the vernacular moralities by a century.
