Jīvanmukta Gītā (Song of the One Liberated While Living)

जीवन्मुक्तगीता (Jīvanmuktagītā)

Dattātreya, cromolitografía de la Ravi Varma Press
byDattatreya

A short Sanskrit poem on liberation while living. It rejects the idea that liberation consists in the death of the body (if so, it says, pigs and dogs would also be liberated) and defines the liberated one as he who sees Śiva established in all beings; according to its last verses and the commentary, he renounces inwardly everything born of illusion and may outwardly seem inert. Maharaja Jaya Chamarajendra Wadiyar translated it with a commentary in 1957.
