भागवतपुराण (Bhāgavatapurāṇa)

byVyasa

The most venerated Purāṇa of devotion to Kṛṣṇa, in twelve books. Its tenth book narrates Kṛṣṇa's childhood and youth in Vraja and his love with the herdswomen (gopīs), the model of bhakti. It presents itself as the work with which Vyāsa at last found peace after composing the Mahābhārata, and was a fundamental text for Caitanya and the Vaiṣṇava schools.

Authorship note

The text itself presents itself as Vyāsa's work, composed on Nārada's advice and taught to his son Śuka; scholarship dates it to around the ninth–tenth centuries, in South India.
