The question of the thread and the inner controller (Bṛhadāraṇyaka 3.7)
अन्तर्यामिब्राह्मण (Bṛhadāraṇyaka 3.7)

Uddālaka relates that he was studying the sacrifice in the house of Patañcala Kāpya in the land of the Madras when a spirit (gandharva) possessing his teacher's wife asked whether they knew "the thread" binding this world, the next and all beings, and "the inner controller" that governs them from within. He challenges Yājñavalkya with the same question. The answer — the thread is the wind; the inner controller is the immortal ātman dwelling in all things without their knowing it — is one of the key texts of Vedāntic theology.
