The Light Shines in Darkness
Leo Tolstoy
Unfinished and openly autobiographical drama, worked on between 1890 and 1900. Nikolai Saryntsev, a landowner converted to radical Christianity, wants to give away his land and clashes with his wife and family; a young disciple who refuses military service is shut in an asylum. Tolstoy left only an outline of the last act. Published in 1911.
