Brahmasūtras (Aphorisms on Brahman)
ब्रह्मसूत्र (Brahmasūtra), también वेदान्तसूत्र

Some 555 aphorisms in four books systematising the teaching of the Upaniṣads on Brahman: its nature, the refutation of other schools (Sāṃkhya, Buddhists, Jains), the means of realisation and the fruit of liberation. Their concision makes them intelligible only with a commentary, and each school of Vedānta —Śaṅkara, Rāmānuja, Madhva— founded its doctrine on its own.
Authorship note
Ascribed to Bādarāyaṇa, whom later Vedāntic tradition identifies with Vyāsa. Scholarship distinguishes the two; Nakamura dates the final redaction to around 400–450, though it gathers earlier material.
