The Heart of Matter
Le Cœur de la Matière
A spiritual autobiography in three parts —the cosmic, the human, the christic— telling how the child fascinated by his 'iron God' came to discover the convergence of the universe and the personal 'heart' that draws it. Together with The Christic, written a month before his death, it is the final synthesis of his vision and the best biographical gateway to his thought.

Authorship note
The autobiographical essay that gives the volume its title was written in 1950; volume XIII of the Œuvres (Seuil, 1976) also gathers Le Christique (1955), La Messe sur le Monde, the last page of the Journal and other texts.
