The Lament of a Monk for His Brother Who Has Fallen into Sinful Temptation
Плач инока о брате его, впадшем в искушение греховное

A penitential meditation written in 1830–1831 at the Semigorodnaya hermitage while he was still a novice, 'by a friend for a friend and by a brother for a brother': with biblical images the monk mourns his brother's fall—and his own—and shows that sin is estrangement from God and spiritual death, and repentance the road back. A contemporary wrote that no one would believe it had been written by a youth barely of age. It closes An Offering to Contemporary Monasticism.
