The Herald of Coming Good

Retrato de G. I. Gurdjieff, 1925
byG. I. Gurdjieff

A programmatic booklet subtitled 'First appeal to contemporary humanity'. It sets out the history of the Institute, the aims of the work, the plan of the All and Everything trilogy and a long declaration of intent, in a deliberately convoluted style. Its withdrawal made it a rarity; reprinted since 1969, it is a key document for dating the crisis of 1931–1933.

Authorship note

The only book published in his lifetime: private English edition, Paris, 1933. Gurdjieff soon withdrew it and asked pupils not to read it; some sources say he destroyed the remaining copies.
