Gurdjieff's most personal book: the account of the crisis after the 1924 accident, the decision to 'remember himself' through constant effort, the break with the New York pupils in 1931 and a series of lectures on 'I am', the body and sensation. Fragmentary and sometimes abrupt, it shows the teacher applying his own method to himself and doubting it.

Authorship note
Third series, unfinished, written between 1933 and 1935. Gurdjieff told Jeanne de Salzmann it was not necessary to publish it; it appeared privately (Dutton for Triangle Editions, 1974–1975) and commercially in 1981.
