Chreiai (Anecdotes)

Χρεῖαι

Mosaico de Diógenes (Colonia)
byDiogenes of Sinope

A title in Sotion's list. If it was Diogenes' own work, it would be a collection of his own sayings, the genre through which we know him; but the collections of chreiai circulating under his name were mostly the work of followers and compilers such as Metrocles or Hecato, and this one is lost.

Authorship note

Lost work. It appears only in the list of Sotion (Book VII of his Succession of Philosophers), who according to Diogenes Laertius (VI 80) held only these titles to be genuine; Sosicrates and Satyrus denied that Diogenes wrote anything.
