The first extended presentation of Ramakrishna’s conversations in the West, thirty-five years before Nikhilananda’s translation. Shorter and more “ordered” than the Kathamrita, it favours parables and general teachings over scenes of life at Dakshineswar. It is in the public domain and fully transcribed on Wikisource.

Authorship note

“Authorised edition for America” prepared by Swami Abhedananda (1866–1939), a direct disciple of Ramakrishna, from M.’s English text and published by the Vedanta Society of New York. It arranges the conversations in fourteen thematic chapters and adds marginal titles to the parables.
