ذكر النسوة المتعبدات الصوفيات؛ الرسالة القشيرية

Rabia de Basora y su sirvienta en oración
byRabia al-Adawiyya

In these manuals of classical Sufism Rabia already appears as a spiritual authority: her sayings on repentance as divine grace, on sincerity and on the love of God illustrate doctrinal chapters. Al-Sulami places her in a gallery of women ascetics and teachers, which shows that she was not an isolated case in eighth-century Basra.

Authorship note

Sayings attributed to Rabia collected by al-Sulami (d. 1021) in his book on Sufi women and by al-Qushayri (d. 1072) in his Epistle, two and a half centuries after her death. Al-Sulami is also the first to distinguish three contemporary Rabias.
