Qasidas

قصاید (Qasa'ed)

Hafez en una miniatura del siglo XVIII
byHafez

Longer panegyric poems written for the princes and viziers of Shiraz. The one for Abu Ishaq opens with a radiant dawn that darkens and ends by recommending fortitude over recklessness; Shah Shuja's has the solemnity of the classical Ghaznavid qasida and lets the poet's voice surface only in the last line. They are first-rate documents for dating the poet's life and career.

Authorship note

Authentic. In the Qazvini-Ghani edition (Ganjoor text) there are three: to Shah Shuja, to the vizier Qawam al-Din Muhammad Saheb-Ayar and to Abu Ishaq Inju; the one addressed to Shah Mansur appears in some editions as a ghazal.
