The Gift; I Heard God Laughing; The Subject Tonight Is Love
A series of books of English poems written by Daniel Ladinsky and published as 'poems of Hafiz' or 'renderings of Hafiz': *I Heard God Laughing* (1996), *The Subject Tonight Is Love* (1996), *The Gift* (1999) and *A Year with Hafiz* (2011). Their huge circulation means that many lines quoted today as Hafez's come from them. They are the original work of a contemporary author whose rights are in force.

Authorship note
These are NOT Hafez's work nor translations of it. Daniel Ladinsky, who does not read Persian, worked from Clarke's translation and has acknowledged that he offers 'interpretations', not translations; Christopher Shackle, Aria Fani, Murat Nemet-Nejat and Omid Safi have pointed out that the poems correspond to no Persian originals. They are recorded here only to warn readers.
