རྗེ་བཙུན་མི་ལ་རས་པའི་རྣམ་ཐར་རྒྱས་པར་ཕྱེ་བ་མགུར་འབུམ། (mi la ras pa'i mgur 'bum)

Tangka butanés de Milarepa, finales del s. XIX – principios del XX
byMilarepa

Some sixty chapters, each an encounter—with demons, shepherds, the hunter Gonpo Dorje, his sister, the Bön priest Naro Bönchung on Kailash, Rechungpa, Gampopa—that ends in an improvised song. The poetry, simple in metre and colloquial in diction, condenses Kagyu doctrine: impermanence, devotion to the guru, tummo and mahāmudrā, mountain solitude as the place of practice. The BDRC record (WA1KG1252) describes the work as a “collection of select songs of spiritual realization by the poet yogin Milarepa”.

Authorship note

Songs of realisation (mgur) attributed to Milarepa, transmitted orally and in biographies of the 12th–15th centuries, compiled and rewritten by Tsangnyön Heruka as the companion volume to the Namthar. It cannot be established which verses go back to Milarepa himself; “a hundred thousand” is a traditional figure.
