Padavali (Mirabai's songs)
मीराँबाई की पदावली

Short songs, composed to be sung to a raga, ending with the signature "Mira ke prabhu Giridhar Nagar" ("Mira's lord is the gallant Giridhar"). They speak of Krishna as a husband chosen against the family's will, of waiting and separation, of the yogi Krishna who seduces and leaves, of mockery and persecution, of the joy of meeting. The language mixes Rajasthani and Braj Bhasha; there is also a Gujarati corpus. Musical tradition also attributes to her a variant of raga Malhar, called "Mira ki Malhar". It is the work for which she is known throughout India.

Authorship note
A collection of the padas tradition attributes to Mirabai, assembled in modern editions from eighteenth- and nineteenth-century manuscripts and oral tradition. The reference edition, Parashuram Chaturvedi's (1932), gathers some two hundred poems but does not declare its manuscripts; Hawley found only two poems attributed to Mira in copies earlier than the eighteenth century. Individual authorship is therefore uncertain.
