One of the earliest collections of Hasidic doctrine on the spiritual life: prayer, cleaving to God, humility and the struggle against alien thoughts. It was one of the sources drawn on by *Tsava'at ha-Rivash* and *Keter Shem Tov*, and is useful for comparing how the teachings attributed to the founder circulated in the 1790s.

Authorship note
Anthology printed in Lemberg (Lviv) in 1792 with teachings of the Besht, of the Maggid of Mezeritch and of the latter's disciples; internal attributions are not always secure.
