Retrato de Santa Teresa de Jesús por fray Juan de la Miseria (1576)
byTeresa of Ávila

The letters are Teresa without the mediation of confessors: business of foundations, money, lawsuits, health, advice to prioresses, letters to Philip II, to Gracián, to her brother Lorenzo in the Indies, with irony, affection and a capacity for command that does not show in the treatises. With Hernando del Pulgar's, it is the great Castilian correspondence of the Golden Age.
