Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind: Informal Talks on Zen Meditation and Practice
Informal talks Suzuki gave over several years in the late 1960s to the meditation group in Los Altos (California), recorded and transcribed by Marian Derby and edited over many months by Trudy Dixon with the teacher himself; Richard Baker completed the editing after Dixon's death. The book, divided into 'Right Practice', 'Right Attitude' and 'Right Understanding', explains Sōtō zazen in plain language: posture as the expression of Buddha nature, breathing, big mind, leaving no trace, beginner's mind. It is the only book Suzuki saw published and one of the most widely read texts on Zen in the West; its prologue opens with the sentence on the many possibilities of the beginner's mind.

Suzuki did not write it: these are oral talks recorded and transcribed by Marian Derby, edited by Trudy Dixon (who titled the chapters and chose the epigraphs) and completed by Richard Baker.
