Meno

Plato

The Thessalian Meno asks whether virtue can be taught. After several failed definitions and 'Meno's paradox' (how can one search for what one does not know?), Socrates guides an untaught slave to discover how to double a square, proof that learning is recollection (anamnesis). He also distinguishes true opinion from knowledge, which is opinion 'tied down' by reasoning.
