चर्यागीति (Caryāgīti / Caryāpada), canciones firmadas «Bhusuku»

Śāntideva, pintura del siglo XIX
byŚāntideva

Mystical songs of the siddhas of eastern India, in the vernacular and in coded language, preserved in a Nepalese manuscript discovered by Haraprasad Shastri in 1907. They are recorded here only because of the traditional attribution: neither language, genre nor date fit the eighth-century monk of Nālandā.

Authorship note

Several tantric songs of the Caryāgīti, in Proto-Bengali, bear the signature of Bhusuku, the nickname legend gives Śāntideva at Nālandā; Abhayadatta includes a Bhusuku among the eighty-four mahāsiddhas. Identifying the tantric poet with the author of the Bodhicaryāvatāra is traditional and highly doubtful.
