I Have Made You the Confidant of My Heart (attributed verses)
إني جعلتك في الفؤاد محدثي * وأبحت جسمي من أراد جلوسي

The lover declares that she has made God the interlocutor of her heart and leaves her body to whoever wishes to sit with her: the body keeps the visitor company, but the Beloved is the heart's intimate companion. The verses express the separation between outward life and inner conversation with God, and their ambiguity provoked suspicious readings very early, which Sunni biographers strove to defuse.

Authorship note
Two verses attributed to Rabia by Abu Sa'id ibn al-A'rabi (d. 952) and by al-Suhrawardi in the Awarif al-ma'arif, according to al-Dhahabi and Ibn Kathir. Al-Dhahabi quotes them to refute those who read them as a profession of divine incarnation (hulul) or of antinomianism (ibaha).
