The Secret Doctrine, Vol. III

Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, 1877
byHelena Blavatsky

A posthumous volume gathering unpublished essays by Blavatsky on the ancient mysteries, the biographies of adepts such as Apollonius of Tyana or Pythagoras, esoteric Buddhism and the Kabbalistic tradition, together with the Esoteric Section's "Esoteric Instructions". Its heterogeneous make-up turned it into one of the most debated texts of the Theosophical corpus.

Authorship note

Edited by Annie Besant in 1897 from manuscripts left by Blavatsky; later Theosophists disputed whether it is the third volume she had announced.
