Saqi-nama (Book of the Cupbearer)
Written work
Saqi-nama (Book of the Cupbearer)
ساقینامه (Saqi-nama)

A poem in rhyming couplets in which each section begins "Come, cupbearer, bring that wine…" and evokes the legendary kings of Iran (Jamshid and his world-revealing cup, Kay Khosrow) to meditate on the transience of power. According to Yarshater it is the only work outside the ghazal that has taken root in popular consciousness, and it gives its name to a section of the *radif* of Persian classical music.
