Vaitathya Prakaraṇa (chapter II: unreality)

वैतथ्यप्रकरण

Estatua de Gauḍapāda
byGaudapada

Thirty-eight verses arguing that the objects of waking are unreal like those of dreams, because they appear within the mind, because what does not exist at the beginning or the end does not exist in the middle, and because their usefulness is contradicted from one state to another. The world is constructed like the rope taken for a snake in the dark. It culminates in the verse of non-origination (2.32) and in the portrait of the homeless sage who lives "according to his nature".
