Of the Supersensual Life (Dialogue between a Master and a Disciple)
Jakob Böhme
Böhme's most widely read text: a dialogue in which the disciple asks how to come to see God and the master answers that it is enough to cease for a moment from all one's own thinking and willing to hear the unspeakable words. On love, detachment and the death of the self, written with a simplicity that contrasts with the great treatises. William Law translated it afresh in the eighteenth century.
