Solovyov wrote some two hundred poems between 1872 and 1900 and collected them in three lifetime editions (1891, 1895 and 1900). Love and metaphysical lyric in which the earthly beloved and the eternal Sophia merge, poems of Finnish and Egyptian landscape, prophetic pieces such as 'Ex oriente lux' and 'Pan-Mongolism', and translations of Plato, Petrarch, Dante, Virgil, Heine, Mickiewicz and Hafez. Fet, Blok and Bely held it to be the founding of a new sensibility.
