A Critique of Dogmatic Theology
Leo Tolstoy
First volume of the great religious treatise that follows A Confession. Tolstoy examines point by point Metropolitan Makary's manual of dogmatic theology and concludes that the Church's official doctrine — the Trinity, the sacraments, the redemption — is a construction foreign to Jesus's teaching. Written in 1879–1880 and published in Geneva in 1891.
