From the Caves and Jungles of Hindostan
Helena Blavatsky
Novelised travel chronicles through India with Olcott and Indian friends, written for the Russian public. They mix ethnographic description, legends, humour and the appearances of a mysterious 'Takur' who anticipates the figure of the Masters. They revealed Blavatsky as a literary writer in her native language and enjoyed considerable success in Russia; Tolstoy read them.
