Attributed to Patañjali

«I bow to Patañjali, the noblest of sages, who removed the impurities of the mind by yoga, of speech by grammar and of the body by medicine.»

Verdict

It is not in Patañjali's work

A Sanskrit verse (yogena cittasya padena vācāṃ…) recited at the start of many yoga classes as if it were an ancient invocation. It is not by Patañjali but in praise of him, and it is late: Meulenbeld places it in a tradition that begins with King Bhoja's commentary (11th c.), the first source to unite the three disciplines in a single person.
