Stanzas attributed to Chaitanya in the Padyavali

पद्यावली (श्लोकाः श्रीभगवतः)

Chaitanya danza entre sus seguidores
byChaitanya Mahaprabhu

Besides the eight canonical stanzas, the Padyavali preserves other verses that tradition regards as Chaitanya's. The most quoted denies every social identity —neither brahmin, nor king, nor merchant, nor servant, nor any of the four stages of life— to affirm a single one: to be the servant of the servant of Krishna's servants. It sums up the reversal of hierarchies that characterised the movement.

Authorship note

Rupa Gosvamin's anthology Padyavali ascribes to "Śrī Bhagavat" —that is, to Chaitanya— several stanzas: those of the Shikshashtaka and a few more, such as the one beginning "nāhaṃ vipro", which Krishnadasa puts in his mouth at the chariot festival (Madhya-lila 13). The attribution is early and comes from a direct disciple, but cannot be independently verified.
