Diaries

Leo Tolstoy

Tolstoy kept a diary, with gaps, from March 1847 until a few days before his death in 1910, as well as notebooks. It is one of literature's great documents of moral introspection: rules of life, self-accusations, ideas for works, religious reflections and, in the last years, the chronicle of the family conflict. They fill volumes 46–58 of the 90-volume complete works.
